What is the adoption process?
If you are interested in one of our pets, please fill an adoption application. FOACAS will review the application and call you with any questions. Once you are approved by FOACAS, you can have a meet and greet with the pet. The last step is a home visit by a FOACAS volunteer.
Why should I adopt a rescue dog or cat and not buy from a breeder?
By adopting a rescue, you save a dog or cat from the misery of living behind a wire cage and concrete block or being euthanized. Shelter animals need you. Most shelter dogs enter the shelter because of family dissolution or poor family planning. They are good and appealing animals. They just need a chance.
Is the pet spayed or neutered?
In most cases the pet is spayed or neutered. A pet under one year typically cannot be sterilized. If a pet is not spayed or neutered, FOACAS will arrange for the spaying or neutering.
How can I volunteer and what is needed?
You can volunteer by letting us know what you would like to do to help. You can give as few or as many hours as you like.
If I see a dog or cat I would like to meet, what is the next step?
The next step is to fill out the FOACAS qualifying application so we can arrange for a meet and greet.
Where do you keep the dogs and cats?
Most of our pets are with foster families within our geographic area.
Are the pets trained?
FOACAS cannot guarantee that the pets are trained. See Three – ThreeThree in Resources.
What medical care have the animals received prior to the adoption?
All the pets have rabies and distemper shots, and they are spayed and neutered if older than one year. FOACAS brings pets for medical attention if and when needed.
Where do the animals come from?
Most of our pets come from shelters within a 2 or 3 hour drive from
Washington DC. Some of the pets come from local families who cannot care for their pet any longer. Is FOACAS an IRS registered non profit organization?
Friends of All Critters at Shelters, Inc. (FOACAS) is a 501c3 non-profit organization as determined by the IRS. EIN: 87-3935246
Does FOACAS have paid employees?
FOACAS is an all volunteer organization. All donations go directly to help the animals.
Can I donate food or other items directly to FOACAS?
